Week 3: Summary and Design Process

Our group has decided to stick with the design/outcome of the first esquisse.

We had problems developing the design, but were very happy to receive feedbacks from our tutors!

Our first tutor, Lana, was impressed with the design of our mod5 building. However, according to Lana the main issue with the design is the shape of the random triangulars on our roof. She suggested that we use an equal sided triangle to emphasize the repetition element in our design. Here are the key points of what has been said and suggested by Lana:

- the use of circular posts, bio domes

- research on Shigeru Ban

- Lighting -> what makes a good learning environment for kids

- Furniture,arrangement of spaces

- Floor system and connections of panels

- Main ridges ; slot panels

Then we were lucky enough to get advice from Mark Luther.

He has helped a lot especially with the ventilation and the orientation of the building, and how we can make the best of our roof design.

Here is what has been suggested by Mark.

-Roof structure; Mirror shapes to get the random effect

- Orientation

-Bed zed

-Ventilation, little flaps opening on the structure

- research on Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs

-Right angled platforms

-put visible panels (on north and south)

-water tanks to be put under the building

-floor plan (take a look at services and hydraulic)

-foundation – screw pile foundations

-air heat exchanger

-hydraulic heating
